Ozempic®/ Wegovy® Vision Injuries

Ozempic/Wegovy use has been linked to causing vision loss known as NAION disease–Non-Arteritic Ischemic Optic Neuropathy–including partial or full blindness. Studies published in JAMA Ophthalmology show a significant increase in NAION disease among Ozempic/Wegovy users as compared to the general population.

NAION vision loss symptoms include vision loss when waking up, blurring or worsening vision across part of the field of view and can affect one eye at a time.  If you are experience such symptoms we encourage you to seek medical attention.

In medical literature terms the JAMA study referred to the link as an “association” between the disease and Ozempic or Wegovy use and that more study is indicated.  However the JAMA study was large (over 16,800 patients) and the hazard ratio (degree of risk of developing the disease while on drugs vs. not on the drugs was significant (4.28 with 95% confidence).
